Kansas Calls Me

Kansas calls me. Well, it does not really call me to anything important. It has given me opportunity to write this, though. I sit in the KCI airport waiting for my best friend to pick me up so I can help him drive his truck the rest of the way across the proud nation in which we live.

The day is dreary, the grass not yet green. There is nothing special about this day in this town, yet there is something very special. This is the day that a dear friend takes action based on a life choice that I've seen develop in him over the years. Now, you could be cynical and say that I am just glad because I am getting him back. There is a measure of that, and I must say that my subjectivity in this situation shape my view on it. However, if there was a situation in which anyone was making a big step towards growth and community I hope that I would be glad in that regardless of how it changes my life. So, back to my point, I am so glad to see growth in a dear friend. I am glad to see him choose healthy community over stagnant peerism. (Yes, I just made that up, but you hopefully can figure out its meaning.)

Growth is one of our greatest goals in life. Regardless of how one defines growth, their own definition lived out is important to the person. I see the greatest types of growth primarily as being spiritual growth, growth in one's own maturity, and growth into community. My already mentioned friend is taking steps toward growth in all three areas as far as I can tell, very exciting. This girl Sarah, who accepted Christ as Savior about two weeks back had the most significant growth one can have. She not experienced growth, but she was made alive in Christ. She was made a child of God. She was brought from death to life. How heart touching should it be to see growth into salvation. That point where knowledge becomes faith is astounding beyond explanation. God is the only one to get the glory in this situation.

So, this growth thing - it involves more than these three areas that I have told you that I like, and really these areas may be interconnected more than we may like to think in American society. When one grows in their spirituality (I must at this point distinguish it as Christian spirituality) they ought to become a better "decider" and become more mature in the process. In making better decisions they develop a better community with those who are also growing around them. Not bad, huh? Like in that movie that I've never seen that Alan always talks about, Pay It Forward, good deeds beget (cause) more good deeds. Not bad, huh? Growth sparks more growth.

So, why aren't we continually growing?

You tell me.

I will let you know my thoughts on that in the near future.

Until then, take care!
